This quote from Laura’s blog perfect sums up my definition of love ::

Nothing is more practical… than finding God, that is,
than falling in love in a quite absolute, final way.
What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination, will affect everything.
… It will decide what will get you out of bed in the morning,
what you will do with your evenings, how you will spend your weekends, what you read,
who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude.

Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything ::  Pedro Arrupe, S.J.

These two inspire me. Their ambition, faith and passion for life. I am truly looking forward to their wedding day next May.

My passion in my wedding work is to tell a couples story through images. To truly define them. To sit down over coffee, tea or a glass of wine and dig at what makes each of them tick, spark and giggle.  Then plan their engagement session from there. I work hard to create the photos that reflect my clients as a couple, a duo, a pair.

I remember asking Sarah what her and Tim do most of the time, what they enjoy. She replied laughing saying they were boring, and that they just love to sit in their jammies, have some of their favorite snacks and veg out. Her description instantly inspired me, my mind began to run with poses, props, looks, etc. I don’t doubt she thought I was crazy when I told her that we would be weaving their jammies into their engagement shoot. I feel so blessed that my clients, like Sarah & Tim, trust in the artist in me.  So we shot some  parts of their session in sweats, eating candy, having a ticklefest. In my mind, the images are brilliant. I smile every time I see them!  Because these are their moments that define them. So step outside of the box with me and we will create some epic things!

View their full session :: here ::

a lil’ peewee herman action here.absolutely loved these sweet n tender moments in between the laughter….now the ticklefest begins…and hilarious hair pieces….

I met Leah during a mini session she booked with me in 2009. Her adorable 6-7 month pregnant self was wearing blue (shocking) and beautiful as ever. She attended a rival high-school so we talked about common people we knew, sports we played,  and had no idea at that point that we would become the greatest of friends, shooting partners, spending almost every weekend together. My biggest blessing has been being able to watch Leah & Tony’s family grow. Growth in their numbers, their relationship, photography and most of all their love. I only hope that when Matt and I add on to the Zeidler clan we can have an ounce of what they have.

This family loves. They Love all over each other. It’s infectious. Just listen to them giggling at the beginning of this movie. You’ll get it.

Self Portrait I September

What? It’s already October? Fall my favorite season is at its peak and I feel like summer was just yesterday. I can’t believe my schedule is pretty much stacked with travel, MTH2010, and weddings straight until the holidays. Don’t get me wrong. I am totally grateful and blessed. It just is almost comical when you look at my calendar.

Me update? September flew by. I am still stumbling in the area of keeping up with a good schedule, but being that I have gotten up at 6am the last two days for a big corporate shoot and not needed a nap. I am giving myself a big high five! I remember seeing this post from Lara last month and it made me look back at a set of goals that I put together in early February. I framed this set of goals for 2010 with an outline that Sarah had mentioned, setting goals in three categories Realistic, Ambitious and Audacious. Within each of those categories have bullet points to list off of :: Immediate Goals, Creative goals, Financial goals, Long term development goals & Personal goals.

After reviewing my goal list I was blown away that I had met most if not all of my goals, even in the audacious category(like being published in a national magazine). BUT, and I give you a big capital BUT because. None, I mean not one of my personal goals (i.e. anything to do for me) I met. Things like taking better care of my body, daily prayer time,  getting back into my workout routine, going to bed at a decent hour, etc.  Again, super grateful and proud at all of the business and finiancial accomplishments I have made. But ladies and gentlemen, none of it matters if you aren’t well or fulfilled down to your core.

So I have refocused my goals for the last three months of 2010 and I am excited to face these challenges head on. Thank you for letting me talk it all out with you. I hope to share more of my goals in my next post.

Also, I have been having a blast dabbling in video lately and I am looking at putting together a lifestyle packages session with stills & video. What a better way to share my self portrait this month than a little video that Julia my wonderful intern and I shot in for about an hour in my neighbors and my yard. Oh and don’t mind the nerd self portraits below.

The day is finally here when I get to share this beautiful shoot. Months ago in May when I found out I was a chosen as a top 20 Cover Shoot finalist (out of 200 some ) I was in shock. Excited, scared, nervous and just wondering how I would make my inspiration board all come to life. I had a strong vision and it was just the matter of making it happen. This is the first time I put together a large production shoot for a magazine. I wanted to style on my own, so with my bestie Lauren (who is also an amazing design nut) to bounce every idea off of we went to town. We worked hard at finding an amazing team and shot in June in Waco, Texas.

Even though we didn’t get the Cover we still were blessed with a two page spread

Model: Liz Kidd. Campbell Agency
Dress: Chaviano Couture. Annette Thurmon
Location : Earle Harrsion House. Kathy Riggs
Make up: Angela Karr  with Faces by Angela
Hair: Philip Sanchez with Salon Wabi Sabi
Flowers & Design: Lauren Kelly
Invitations: Red Organic
Calligraphy: MM Ink

The day of the shoot, Texas greeted me with the best summer heat wave that let me know I definitely wasn’t in the Twin Cities anymore.  We downed water, stayed in the shade and managed to have an absolute blast despite the heat.  I will share some fun behind the scenes images and lots of other great captures from throughout the day a little later but, for today, I wanted to share the swoon-worth spread.  I hope you enjoy jumping into our creation as much as we loved creating it.

These are some of my favorite details.  I wanted to give a clean and polished feel to the overall shoot but know from experience that inspiration needs to come from real life.  I tried to capture summer — and all the wonderful things that come along with it.

Little shout out to our model, Liz Kidd, who graces the table of contents page with her wonderful giggle and up for anything attitude.  She even makes drinking out of a dirty water hose look glamorous.

I also feel blessed to share an ad page with other cover finalists and inspirational photographers in this blossoming industry.

And just to give you a peek into where things started, above is the inspiration board that sparked it all.  Looking at it still makes my heart flutter.  I couldn’t possibly be more proud of what we created or more excited about the feature it was given.  See below for some of my favorite pairings.

Thanks Lara, Emily & Katharine for giving me the opportunity to bring this to life.  I feel so blessed to be in print among some of the most beautiful spreads I have ever seen.
