Most Hilarious

To be truthfully honest Halloween kinda scares me. Definitely its fun to see all the little kids dressed up and the creativity come out, but this girl is completely afraid of the gore and guts. I have never been a fan of scary movies either, meaning I am still scared of E.T. That nerdy bit aside, this halloween wedding holds one of my most hilarious and embarrassing moments ever.

During a wedding reception, my assistant and I almost always try to find a “spot” a place for our stuff. Water, camera bags, jackets and  sometimes we end up taking 5 minute breaks in the in between so setting up camp is a necessity. At this wedding we had a spot in a room in the front of the reception hall. There were a lot of things in the room, but it was secluded which is just what we needed to take a breather here and there and to have a home base of sorts. The wedding was wonderful and after a full day of shooting outside we were ready for a warm up and the scrumptious meal we had been smelling all afternoon. After we got our plates, we were going to grab our bags before we sat down. I opened the door to our home base with my back since I had my camera in one hand and my plate full of Italian in the other.  As I turned into the room I got the biggest halloween trick of the night when I saw…

Grandpa. In. his. UNDERPANTS.  We are talking pants on the GROUND, people.

I froze and screamed at the same time. I can’t believe I didn’t toss my whole plate of food. All of the grandkids were right outside the door so they had a front row seat for the show.  Needless to say, the whole hallway was roaring. Grandpa just looked up and grinned. I shut the door as fast as possible while yelling, I am soooorrrrry. And seriously laughed so hard, I was literally crying. We tried to eat for the next hour and could barely put food in our mouths with out the giggles.

So, needless to say, this wedding always holds a special place in my heart….and I ALWAYS knock before I open any doors. 🙂

Learning to Pray

October 28, 2011
See more posts in My Heart

Today while getting ready I was going to text a couple of close friends to pray for my strength and for my body as I have been pushing it straight into exhaustion. It’s that time of year. Then a thought later, I was like. Um, Gina asking for others to send you prayers is nice and great, but you need to make time to pray straight to God. Just you and him. Surrendering yourself to him. Tons of people could be praying for you but if you don’t set the time out to let God take over your body and produce rest and rejuvenation, that asking others to pray for you is just fluff. You don’t have to have a fancy prayer for the Lord, you just need to be still and let the Lord lead your heart. Wake up and spend time with him instead of the snooze button or popping over to get your computer or phone.

Also, I have felt a call to my heart to really look at my prayer for others. So often about a month ago I would find myself saying “I will definitely pray for that” or “I am praying for you” but would get through a day or a week and feel like I haven’t found the time. I feel terrible about it and because it was in my full intentions to pray for them I just never did. Now, if I tell someone I am praying for them I want to set out time to really, dedicate my prayer to them.  I wanted to become more diligent about following through. So I have been trying a couple of new things.

-I found this prayer app on my iPad. It has a whole run down list of prayer so that I can have it all in one place. I can mark when I prayed for it and when God answered it. It’s really helped.

-I have started to text, or write out prayer to others. It helps me really focus my prayer, whether I am sending them directly to the person or just in my journal. Written out, I always seem to be more clear and more intentional. Love this.

-I haven’t started yet,  I want to make some sort of “prayer pail” where people write names on popsicle sticks and pick them up from time to time and pray for who’s name was on the stick.

-I also want to start prayer on my knees more often.

I would love if you have any great prayer tips you want to share. I want to grow in this area. I want to continually turn my heart away from what it normally wants watching tv, or perusing the internet and just spend time in thoughtful prayer and focusing on things from above.

Today’s Challenge :: Take 4 minutes today and make a list of those in your life you want on your prayer list and do it.

Ginaism. You have to put in the work. It’s simple. You have to make the choices. No one else can do it for you. It’s almost embarrassing at the realization you had this morning, but its truth that God put in your brain. Remember how you used to pray & visualize during the national anthem before all of your basketball games? Find that quiet. Pray for what is coming. What’s ahead.  Gina you are such a connector. You want to share and help others so so often. While all of this is great, you really need to slow down and cut out the distractions and spend time quiet time with God. You have set out a want for this in your heart and have been diligent to make it happen the last week and it sets your feet. Psalm 119:105 Choose to be filled up with the words of the LORD. Not the words of approval of the world. Take in and really listen to who God says you are. Choose those thoughts over thoughts of disappointment, not being good enough. Set out 15 minutes of prayer time each day to go through your list. You CAN. YOU CAN. YOU CAN.

This day

She started out her day pretty normal. Putting on her running shoes and getting a workout in. Although, this day was more special than the rest. In a couple of short hours she would be putting on a white sparkly dress and amazing blue shoes. Shortly, she would be seeing her soon-to-be husband, her dear friends and family. This day was like no other. She soaked in all in, every moment. She literally radiated beauty all day long, just beautiful love and happiness emoted from her and her Mr.

Meet Mr. & Mrs. Mulvihill.

Ps. you two. I could take photos of you snuggling and just living in the moment forever. I love you both!

Never in Heart

A part of you has grown in me.
And so you see, it’s you and me
Together forever and never apart,
Maybe in distance, but never in heart.

This amazing couple has been living in different states for most of their relationship. Once May hits this next year they will finally be together for good and a month later being wed. Seeing these two together, makes my heart so happy. Seeing the excitement and the pure “Iwanttosqueezeyoueverymomentwearetogetherness” was beautiful to watch. While putting together styling for their session the idea of an airport came to mind and it was a perfect fit.  We had such a blast finding our way around this aviation lane. My bride put it perfectly “After three years of a long-distance relationship and countless flights across the country, it was amazing to be at an airport and just be close instead of thinking about being apart.”

Keep me warm

It’s that time of year. Yesterday I almost tweeted, “Doomsday has arrived, I had to get the scraper out of the trunk and use it this morning” For my southern friends, that means I had to scrap my car windows because of frost. The cool fall weather has definitely creeped up quickly. While fall is definitely my favorite season, it seems to fly by. I relish in the chai tea, tall boots, warm cider and my north face as long as I can. Yet I am starting to realize my fingers are frozen at the end of sessions and sooner than I might like the (oh please dont’ say it) snow will be here.

So before it becomes unbearable I challenge you to get outside with a warm drink and cuddle underneath a blanket with your loved ones. Make a fort with your lil’ ones. Take a long walk and breath in this air. Physically put into action keeping each other warm and also I challenge you to warm your hearts. Let others love you. Choose to love others even when its hard. Even when that car cuts in front of you, choose to clothe yourself with compassion like we are called to do in Colossians 3:12-14. Choose a fuzzy blanket instead of crabbiness. Because sooner than you know it it will be a different season, outside and in your life.

Choose warmth. I am so so so so so so so so so so  in love with this image. It’s Jamaican me CRAZY!

Best Friend

Sometimes you get the privilege of watching a couple fall in love from the first moments. These two met through me and my husband. At our wedding festivites and it has been nothing but amazing watching their love grow. That sounds so cliche, but really I mean it. It really all came together for me when I shot them. The sly looks at each other, the laughs the adorable kisses. Really they are adorable kissers. I just had never been around their puppy love, and I love it. I was so inspired shooting them. These two are some of the greatest people around and I am over the moon that they found each other. V I heart you and I can’t WAIT till November.

Powerful

I met these two over pizza. It felt immediately like hanging out with old friends. Laughing and telling stories, hearing about how they have been together about a decade. The way these two look at each other is crazy powerful. When they lock their eyes, the amount of love and just gentle love is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. It’s magnetic.

Plus this bride loves to jam just as much as I do. I love her smile, spunk and extra awesome dance moves. Girl, God was so here on your day. Smiling down on you both.

Drop a beat

This family always makes me so happy! I have been shooting them for the last year and a half and it brings me so much JOY to see them grow! Baby Leo is expected in Jan.  I love when a mom emails me and says that there is nothing special about their family and then a couple sentences later her plain jane set off some amazing creativity. My inspiration started when I found out Little M loves to drop a beat and jam out. That is exactly what we did.

Love these images of this way too adorable and hip family!

B. This is all in a days work. Your mommy is pretty amazing how she can do 50 things at once. You are a good helper though. Man your Aunt Gina is pretty worried about when she has a baby like you and being able to juggle and balance it all like your Mom. Aunt Gina has trouble balancing with only her little puppy eeeppp.

Brady. Keep giving your momma the heart to work harder, dream bigger, and that you need a new swing.

It’s always a blessing when your friends ask you to photograph their big day. This couple’s wedding was not only amazingly beautiful, it was an absolute blast! The love for each other and just genuine glances throughout the day. They are definitely living through love and I am so glad that I will be able to see their love flourish for next 10 years. Much Love James & Kim.

The luckiest

The luckiest- Ben Folds (who is a host on one of my favorite shows right now)

Matt I am so incredibly lucky to call you my better half. To have you to laugh and listen with. Thank you for every single thing you do, especially the little things like refilling the ice trays. I want to continue to know you more, to love you more, to experience you in new ways. Thank you for being a patient with me and never making me feel like less during struggles, but lifting me up. You are there to make me laugh and to give me hugs.

Truly. I am the luckiest.

Artist

We arrived at this destination wedding a day early, checked in to our house on the property and then wandered over to the campfire where the bridal party was enjoying a beautiful fire on a starry night. I give my Bride & Groom a hug and as my Groom starts to introduce us, he says.

“These are our artists for the wedding weekend”

I stopped dead in my tracks.

Not because I didn’t believe it, or had heard it thrown around before. It was the sincerity and respect as he uttered those words, that made me sit down in my seat and feel so eternally grateful for clients like these. Clients that become friends around a campfire, clients that unabashedly believe in my creativity. I sat around that campfire that night and the next just blessed to know these two and their friends. To spend a night or two falling asleep and waking up to the waves of Lake Superior crashing into the shore, shooting a wedding in bare feet, and be an artist.

Relish

This couple was straight up cute and adorable together. The whole day was just a pure celebration of their relationship and their love. My favorite photos are definitely of the speeches. The laughs, the emotions, the words that were read will always be etched into my mind.

Today take time to reminisce old stories or memories. Slow down to remember those times where you laughed until you almost peed your pants. Call an old friend and remember. Leave a voicemail for a friend about that “one time”. The days fly by so fast and we don’t even notice it, so relish today in the good stuff. Write it down. Laugh it out. Give your memories to someone as a gift, like I saw in this post. (just amazing)

Slow down and remember.
