Is this what you feel like before a session? Are you nervous? Have questions? Looking to get started into photography? Well this post is for you. I wanted to share my favorite photo essentials in this video. Excuse my mumbles and nerdyness. I hope this helps and if you have more questions after ask below or here on Formspring. Also, check out my mentor sessions if you would like some one-on-one time to answer all your questions or dig into an idea. I have had a bunch of these sessions in the last two weeks and they are just SO inspiring. To see my mentees, walk out of our session and do things that light their hearts on fire. I squeal every time I see a new update or text on their progress. Seriously, like a proud mamma. Anyways…grab some ice tea and hit play!

Island Wedding FTW

I had the privilege of starting off my 2012 season with two amazing beach weddings. The Dominican Republic (this full blog post coming soon), then next up was South Padre Island. In my mind, nothing beats the beach (or any coast) and the colors surrounding it. I always am crazy inspired by the textures of different beaches. We found this amazing sand on the opposite side of the island where Kim and Ronnie had their first look. Kim’s dress was unbelievably perfect with the wind and she just radiated in it. It was such an effortless day filled with joy and lots of dancing with their family and friends. Thank you two for including me & Sarah in your big day!

P.S.S. this teal wall blows my mind. I want it. In my house. Or garage. Let’s see what the hubby says, it is his favorite NFL team’s color.

The first city of the Making Things Happen Spring Tour was North Carolina, which gave me the awesome opportunity to shoot Ms. Emily Ayer‘s, the Art Director at Southern Weddings, engagement session. Emily is getting married this September and is blogging all the amazing plans & details on her adorable blog :: Em for Marvelous. Seriously folks, this girl is a gem. She is so hard working and just so warm and inviting. I squealed a couple of times after the first couple of images uploaded to the computer. The images were jam packed with the joy her and John have. They are completely smitten with each other and were such a treat to photograph.  We had way too much fun hanging out at the North Carolina Art Museum  snuggling in the long grass(sans me of course), walking in the forest and enjoying ice cream (or me watching them enjoy ice cream, dang you dairy allergy).

Read up on Emily’s post at Southern Weddings on her engagements and all her advice :: http://iloveswmag.com/2012/06/06/emily-plans-a-wedding-engagement-photos/

Then also get on over to her blog to see her favorites and the funny/running/happy image :: http://www.emformarvelous.com/our-engagement-photos/

Step by Step

I learn so much from my clients, especially expecting mommas. They teach me to take each day step by step. Many times there is so much patience required waiting on the arrival of the little one to come. It’s often first time in your life where you realize you can’t control everything. No we aren’t expecting, but each of these beautiful soon-to-be mothers push me to walk closer to the Lord. Trusting in his timing. In his provision and in his plan. For his thoughts are greater than my thoughts. Living in a world that strives on self-accomplishment and you can fix it mentality, photographing my mommas  like I have taken a big breath of fresh air. They remind me of grace, of miracles and of beauty.

Recipes for Jumping joy

See more posts in Faith, My Heart

When was the last time you jumped? Honestly. As adults when was the last time you jumped up & down or possibly out of your seat? Do you remember?

We see young children with such JOY and I think we feel that we are too old or too grown up to experience it. I think we often believe I don’t have time for silly joy.

Which is the exact opposite of what we should be doing. I believe we are called to be joyful. To jump up and down if makes us giggle. To sing at the top of our lungs if it brings life to your body. To dance to a good tune. Jump on a trampoline. Go down a slip and slide.

What makes you joyful? Don’t tell me you have nothing, or its too much work or your too tired.

Try these recipes.

Monkey on the bed :: 1 Cup of gumption. 2 Cups of your favorite station on pandora. 1 teaspoon of a bed. 1 pint of getting up and taking a couple of bounces. Extra credit if you do some ninja leg kicks. Cook for 6 minutes on high. It shall leave you with a smile and possibly a bump on your head.

Windy Rock Concert :: 1 cup of a destination or errand. 2 cups of a car. 3 teaspoons of your favorite ipod or iphone song. 2 windows down. You must turn up the temperature up by cranking the sound and sing along loudly for 10 minutes. This will produce some smiling relief, maybe a glance from a passing car and definitely increase your skills in the steering wheel drums.

Sprinkle. Sprinkle. :: 2 Cups of hot sun. 1 cup of hose. 1/3 cup of a sprinkler (or you can substitute these both and borrow from a local business or neighbor) 1 quart of courage and then 3 sprints back and forth through the stream. Repeat as many times as you would like. It shall leave you with a flavor of joy, laughter and wet clothes.

I know these all might come off as silly to you, but we are NOT too old or too grown up. Our hearts yearn for the simplicity of laughter, joy and contentment. Isn’t that why we want to go to a movie or watch tv. To be entertained? To laugh? To feel content?

Choose the simple joy this weekend. Jumping up and down. Running through a sprinkler or singing your heart out in the car. Let me know if you have a favorite recipe. I would love to try it out.

Let’s all try to slow down to see and ENJOY the simple joys.

Happy weekend y’all.
