The amazing Sarah Cotner had her album release and live performance this last saturday at Acadia Cafe. Sarah, like me, was recovering from being sick, but with some robitussin and crowd love she rocked out her set. Sarah is slated to play next at Beneath the Surface & the Fine Line. Check her music out here. So proud of you girl. Keep it up!

The new brand is in its final stages. Whoo Hoo! Today I visited the awesome Studio on Fire, to see my business cards on press. I love that my designer Aurora of Red Organic has invited me to my press checks, being the techy nerd I am it was so interesting to see how the final product is put together. Take a peek into the new brand to launch this month.

Now anyone that knows me knows that I am addicted to my iPhone. It is something I definitely depend on everyday. From my alarm in the am, to checking email, texts, facebook, twitter; to playing the only 3 games I allow on my phone Skee-Ball, Wheel of Fortune and the ever addicting DoodleJump. As much as our phones/devices keep us in the know, do they really keep us connected? Is that real connection? I recently read an article by Howard Mann in Seth Godin’s awesome free E-book, these words really stuck with me:

“We’ve become slaves to our mobile devices and the glow of our screens. We walk the streets with our heads down staring into 3-inch screens while the world whisks by doing the same. And yet we’re convinced we are more connected to each other than ever before. Multi-tasking has become a badge of honor.”

The line “we walk the streets…” made me realize how often when I am outside I am staring at my phone. I am missing out on connecting with one of my favorite things, the outdoors. Also, I don’t know how many times I have pulled out my phone during dinner conversations, or perused my twitter while on the phone with a good friend. Think of all the precious moments that I let fly by not being present and soaking up the real connection of what is in front of me.

So I am taking a stand and throwing in some self made mandates:

  1. I need to WILL start using a real alarm clock, to avoid checking my phone for emails & updates first in the am. All emails will be there in an hour or two. (Thank Lara for this fabulous pointer)
  2. My phone says in my pocket/purse until I have had 20 deep breaths of air when I get outside. I want to soak in my God-given surroundings.
  3. Strive to be present in conversations. Again keeping my phone/computer shut-down and focus on the person who I am sharing with.

I challenge you to try one of these out with me this week and let me know how it goes. Or if you have any other good unplugging tips, I would love to hear them. Now a small disclaimer, because my lil’ iPhone is glaring at me. I love my iPhone and its abilities and you might be amazing at Multi-tasking and this doesn’t phase you. But personally, I suck at this and I just don’t want it running my life.  Hence the mandates.  Wish me luck!

Just because every post is better with a photo.

2009 has been amazing and such a blessing. Yet something has really changed inside me. (….these lyrics below speak to it perfectly) 2010 watch out because I am going to rock you out, like never before.

In 2010 I will be defying gravity and every other fear that is inside me. I will surround myself with inspiration, love, family, my faith and those who are on my same level. I will shake off the rest. I will live out my dreams and follow my passion. I will continue to learn and love myself. I will Crush It. I will create life long images that capture the essence of my clients.  I will connect, help, give, love, and tell others stories through my gift of photography.

I WILL MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules
Of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

It’s time to try
Defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I am defying gravity
And you wont bring me down!

I’m through accepting limits
”cause someone says they’re so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I’ll never know!
Too long I’ve been afraid of
Losing love I guess I’ve lost
Well, if that’s love
It comes at much too high a cost!

I’d sooner buy
Defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye
I’m defying gravity
I think I’ll try
Defying gravity
And you wont bring me down!

This image of me that Matt took, really emulates change, shaking off the negative, my fears and looking onto an ridiculously awesome 2010. I am so excited that you will be joining me on embracing a new year. Happy New Year!

The next week Lara announced her MTH2010 Intensive tour, she was giving away a spot to those who commented on why they needed to go. I commented and I along with 11 others won. Woot!

After a long holiday weekend with family and taking a small hiatus from my computer, I got to soak up moments that reminded me I am very blessed. I have a great support system of family, friends, and the most amazing opportunity to photograph people’s  most precious moments. I have been blessed with an amazing 2009 and I want to wrap this year up with a great cause. Let’s give back to those that have less, those that have had unlucky experiences, heartbreak, hurt. Lets get in the holiday spirit and reach out and lend a hand. Sometimes the smallest gesture can make a big impact.  Especially during the holidays.

With all of that in mind, I’ve decided to participate in the Cans for Comments campaign this year. Canada’s ever amazing Chris + Lynn came up with this awesome concept last year and I am so happy to join them in the second year. Check out the twitter friends that are also participating.

We can make a difference. It would be great for YOU to help ME give back to my community. It’s simple, takes just a minute, and benefits a great organization.

Alright alright, down to the nitty gritty. Here are the details:

  • Now through December 11th*, I’ll donate one canned good for each and every comment left on this blog.
  • You can comment on any post (or even better, every post!). No limits!
  • For every comment YOU leave, I’ll donate a canned good to Second Harvest Heartland.
  • If you have a blog and participate in the Cans for Comments drive, leave a comment here to share your blog with my readers!
  • My fellow bloggers I challenge you to to participate and share the love and joy. I know we can make a difference.

Let’s spread this awesome cause like a wildfire!

*Added an extra week to comment away.

Welp. Believe it. I actually pulled off posting everyday this month. That means today is the last thursday of the month, so Happy Thanksgiving! This month of reflecting on the little things came at such pivotal timing for me. After my mentor session early in the month, I really got into my groove of writing again. I have spent a lot of time  reflecting on my life and business.  I have experienced many ups and downs along the way but taking time to remember and write about what I was thankful for each day really made such a difference in my attitude in my everyday life. This is something I definitely want to keep up on a personal level, adding to my journal about what I can be thankful for often.

So today I challenge you to write down what you are thankful for. Many of you will do this at your thanksgiving dinners or in your head throughout the day, but there is something to be said about actually writing words down. They become so much more real and tangible. Trust me you might surprise yourself.

Here is my list of thankfuls for today: amazing husband. supportive and life changing friends.  the means to express my creativity. the last month of posts. 112 Eatery. athletic ability and last but definitely not least peppermint bark.

Also, if you are looking for some more personal reflection and goal setting, check out this amazing article Get Fired Up :: How To Make Things Happen written by Lara Casey. I can’t put into words how much of a blessing reading and doing this excerise was. I am so appreciative she shared her heart. It makes me want to meet Lara in person, give her a huge hug thanking her and then talk for hours about life. A special thanks to E for forwarding it on.

Be on the look out for a post coming soon about an easy way to be thankful and giveback to the community. Safe travels to all. Happy Thanksgiving + 4 day weekend.

Meet Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. The first time I saw this amazing band was when they opened for Dave Barnes this summer at Varsity theatre. It takes a lot to impress me at a concert, especially a new band that I have never heard before. Drew & the neighbors blew me away… I was automatically memorized by their voices and really taking to every tune.  I got home downloaded their music and even set my ringtone to one of my favorite songs. One thing I loved about their live performance is the way that Drew and Ellie looked at each other. It just was such adorable evident love. I whispered to my husband, “they have to be married or crazy in love.” Later in the concert Drew announced her as his wife and I was like I knew it. Seriously their connection was totally inspirational. I want to love like that.

Drew & Dave are very active on the social media sites (which i love about vendors) and today Drew was giving away their new Christmas CD if you tweeted a message about the new CD. I did and I won! I am so excited to hear all the tracks and jam to them this holiday season. Also, make sure to head to their website and facebook page to listen to their stuff.

They also came out with their first video today. It is amazing. Another spot of how frickin’ adorable these two are and how well their voices compliment each other. Today I am thankful for this awesome group. I would love to do a cover/promo shoot for this band some day.
