Make it You

One of the biggest pieces of advice I give to my couples or anyone planning a wedding for that matter is make it you. Completely you. I wish someone would have told me this while planning our wedding. I mean yes, I incorporated my favorite colors at the time and  I thought my whole planning and wedding get up was the bees-kneees. But I didn’t think out of the box for our wedding, I didn’t know I could.

That is why I encourage my couples to choose the traditions you want and throw the others to the curb. Love the water? Then get married on it. Don’t like big formal gatherings? Then make it intimate. Do it your way. Make your wedding an extension of who you are as a couple.

Your wedding doesn’t have to be with 400 other people, that costs you $100,000. You can get married on a boat with the closest of friends and family, and look adorable like these two did. I was so inspired by Rachel’s look, she looked divine! You could even get married in a courthouse (PS I am secretly dying to shoot a cute styled courthouse wedding, any takers?) Think your not creative, try me. I bet I can find some unique pieces about you and your better half to incorporate into your day. Actually, I love doing this so really, I am up for a test. In the mean time enjoy this couple and the craving for ice cream that will occur when looking at these photos!

  1. Great post, Gina. I totally agree, and also fall into the “didn’t know I could” category when it comes to making your wedding your own. We did do a very small wedding, but I still wish I would have veered from the “traditional” wedding a bit more.

  2. I totally agree!  I don’t regret the “must haves” that we cut out of our wedding day…it made the traditions we chose to keep seem much more important.

  3. well said, gina! i am completely in your boat on this one. we did the same thing for our wedding – all very nice, but nothing *completely us* and we do backflips when we see couples who really put themselves in the driver’s seat of their day! this wedding looks so sweet, and i adore all of the yellow in their portraits <3

  4. Thank you Gina! Beautiful wedding and beautiful post. I think I needed this reminder about now – we are loving all the details of our wedding, but know that some might not. This just helped me put “it doesn’t matter what others think” back in the front of my mind. Thanks for that!
