Documenting the Ugly

I so often talk about my perspective about how God is using our infertility for good. Yet, I want to also remember these impossible times of hurt. Where I don’t understand. Where I cry out. Where the tears just flow. Where I am on my knees broken, while watching all those around me conceive so simply, and we receive another no. Another failed cycle.  Where my heart is so broken, angry, frustrated, defeated. These feelings and this brokenness exists and need to be remembered.

WHY?

Because I want these moments to be part, JUST PART OF THE STORY. I am hoping with every-fiber-of-my-being that they just are part of the story. The part that I get to look back on and show God’s amazing glory. To show His story.  A story I hope I get to tell a future child about how God is loving. He is there for us. Even when it feels like he has left you alone. Even when it feels like he is giving everyone else around you the desires of your heart. Even when you want to scream and cry and run far away. Even when it feels like He is against you. It’s all part of His plan and to continue to be faithful and cling to the Lord.

Will you all lift us up in prayer to stay close to the Lord amidst the unbearable pain and the anger? To continue to reach out and to fall into the arms of Jesus and not believe the lies that he has forgotten us.

Unspeakable Grace

Today I am still hoping and praying that it is the Lord’s will that we will have our own adorable little baby someday. Even if it seems impossible right now.

Today I am rejoicing and thankful for the Lord’s unspeakable grace in this long waiting season. Grace to be able to photograph maternity sessions and newborn sessions without one ounce of bitterness. (People often ask if it’s hard and honestly no! It’s been such a blessing to just feel pure joy while working. Truly a gift from God)

Today I am celebrating that I am not perfect and will go through trials here on this earth. Trials just like this one that breaks my heart mosts days. Why? Because they are breaking me down, piece by piece to become more like Jesus. To trust Him more. To see Him for who He really is. A good and loving father.

Today I am setting my hope on God’s plan for our family. Which is bigger than I could ever imagine. I am continuing to reiterate and read in the word that He is good. He is for my good. He is for me. Even on the hardest days, it all has a purpose.

Today I am telling my future self to come back and re-read this truth. No matter what crazy, hurtful things that are happening in my life, to seek God and His goodness. Seek truth, not feelings or what everyone else says. Just seek His Truth. The only thing that matters.

Meaningful Mistakes

Yea, that one time that I thought my film camera was broke (and almost had a heartattack) because the film wouldn’t advance? Later to find out it was stuck on multiple exposure button. DUH Gina, rookie mistake.

This is real life people. Yes, of course I love to share my favorite images with you here on this blog, but I want you to see this side too.  The imperfect. The mistakes.  To remember that we all make mistakes, take a bad photo, have a bad day. Because life should be about each one of us connecting on the good and the bad, the ups and the downs, the ugly and the pretty, cause that is what life IS. No one is perfect. Don’t compare your worst to everyone’s best.

Love your mess. Love your mistakes. Laugh with me (or at me) and be real. This is the only life you have to live, so don’t pretend or always wish you had more, lived there, made this much money…..etc. Advice I need to read everyday.

Gina, choose to claim today as good enough, a blessing even. With what you have and where you are at this moment, thank the Lord. Think about how much more you have than so many on this earth. Choose gratitude. Choose being real and raw with those you love. Don’t hold back. G, don’t waste anymore time trying to be something your not. That’s so lame 🙂

Y’all will you join me in battling the the lie that everyone else has it together and we don’t. How you might ask? By being honest, humble and real.  Admitting our faults with our triumphs so that we all can see each other as we really are. Imperfect and beautiful.

My heart has been craving so much SPACE. Open time to just be. To breathe, to think, to sip tea. I am SO disenchanted with the busy of busy. With filling every month to the brim. 100/100 spent. Why do we do this to ourselves? What part of our society made it cool to have no rest?

I am boycotting busy. I am boycotting 100%. I want to live on the principle of 70/30.  70% of life and 30% of SPACE. Space for breathing and time to enjoy life to welcome new faces or projects. Doesn’t it sound delightful?? I LOVE these words from Kristin Armstrong in her amazing book Mile Markers.

“I have enough goals, enough responsibilities, enough items on my revolving to-do list, just like everyone else I know.  If we think to much about what needs to get done, we can stagger under the weight of it all.  Not just what we have to do, but the people who are depending on us to get it done.  We have so many cups to fill that we are like an endlessly pouring pitcher.  Some for you, some for you, here you go honey, hold it with two hands, that’s it…

This is fine, better than fine, I am not complaining, like you I feel blessed to have cups to fill at all.  And blessed in the attempt to fill them.  But the factor we cannot neglect is not so much importance of filling the cups, but of replenishing the pitcher. And this is what finally snagged my heart.  The reminder to all of us to stay filled, to remain connected to our source, to refill before we run dry.  -Kristin Armstrong | Refill

AMEN sister. Refill time. Time to wander, to fill my pitcher so I can be a better wife, photographer, mentor, daughter, sister, friend and follower of Christ. Let’s challenge ourselves throughout the end of this year to not feel guilty about taking time to refill our pitchers.

Jesus is cool.

Got to knock off my first bananas list item! Capturing an adult Baptism!

We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4 (NIV)

What a BLESSING it was to be part of this day! Praise the LORD God almighty for His goodness and grace!

Family Time

Family time. A phrase that to me, means all things crazy and beautiful all at the same time. Family photos in my mind should be a representation of what “family time” means to your own family at that stage in life. So your boys don’t sit still? Awesome. Let’s run or go on an adventure. In the mood for wrestling? Let’s do it! Let’s really capture your family. Capturing who your family is right now. These are the images that will burn in your child’s mind when they look back these images year later. That big tickle. Those nummy skittles you used to get them to smile. Going on an adventure.

Let’s capture this kind of Family Time during your session. Ok? Ok!

Honestly, this little family fills my soul to the brim! Check out their amazing life and mission in Africa and if you love coffee like my husband does you are in for a treat!! Lastly, if you want to swoon over some STUNNING images…… Check out Kristi’s work. I drool every time I open her stuff! PS. Read all about a day in their life over here! Seriously inspiring.
